Kanpur Tour

Kanpur is the industrial town of India founded by Hindu Chandel King of Sachendi. Kanpur is nestled on the banks of the river Ganga, holds historical, religious and commercial importance. The city is also known as Manchester of India.

It is the largest city of Uttar Pradesh and second largest Hindi speaking city next to Delhi. Kanpur has contributed a lot in literature, art and education. A branch of Reserve Bank of India and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India were established in the city. Kanpur is also home to reputed IIT Kanpur, Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI) and GSVM Medical College and thus is also an education hub.

Relevance of Name

The city derived its name from Kanhiyapur, the town of Kanhiya (Lord Krishna). As the passed Kanhiyapur distorted to Kanhapur and later came to be known as Kanpur. One the popular character from Mahabharat, Karna is also associated with the city.

Green Park Stadium

It is the city's gift to cricket lovers. Beautiful Green park stadium is the only stadium of Uttar Pradesh. Both Test and One Day matches played on this ground. With a seating capacity of 45,000 the floodlit stadium is used for multi-purpose.

Kamla Tower

The beautiful tower is built on the outlines of London Tower and Big Ben which is constructed by Lala Kamlapat Singhania, serves as the head quarter of JK Singhania Business family.

Jajmau

Jajmau or Siddhapuri is a tourist destination. The ancient city has many attractions for tourists. The Siddhnath and Siddha Devi temples, the tomb of sufi saint Makhdam Shah Ala-ul-Haq built by Firoz Shah Tughlaq and a mosque built by Kulich Khan are must watch.

Massacre Ghat

Massacre Ghat or Nana Rao Ghat, earlier known as Satti Chaura Ghat, is an important tourist attraction of the city. The place has become important since the revolt of 1857. Many men, women and children were killed at the ghat. Since the revolt was led by Nana Sahib of Peshwa, the Satti Chaura Ghat was renamed as Nana Rao Ghat and later became popular as Massacre Ghat. A temple was built here.

Agricultural Gardens

The beautiful colourful flowers and shady bowers in landscape garden give the feeling of paradise.

Phool Bagh

Annual flower show is held at Phool Bagh or Ganesh Udyan. Public meetings are held in K.E.M. Hall of the garden. It also has a Summer House and a Public library.

Moti Jheel

Moti Jheel, is a popular picnic spot. There are couple of developed adjacent to lake which are beautiful recreation ground and children's park.

Allen Forest Zoo

The Kanpur Zoo was established in 1971. This zoo cum botanical garden has wide variety of native and foreign animals and plants.

The Nana Rao Park or Memorial Well Garden, Brijendra Swarup Park and Gautam Buddha Park are the other gardens of the city.

Places of Worship

Shri Radhakrishna Temple, popular as J. K. Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, Jain Glass Temple, Panki Hanuman Temple and Bhitargaon Temple are the important places of worship in Kanpur.
