Dadri – Power Generators of India

History

Dadri is located in the Gautam Buddha Nagar District in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India, known for having world’s largest power projects. The history of Dadri came into limelight in 1857 when ‘Raja Umarao Singh Bhati’ stood against the British in the battle for freedom. It has a unique power station owned and operated by National Thermal Power Corporation having two plants one that generates electric power through coal fired thermal power plant and the other generates by gas fired plant. NTPC was built around 1988-1990 to meet the power demand of the National Capital Region. It has India’s second biggest HVDC transmission system through which power is transmitted to Rihand Super Thermal power station to National Capital Territory Power Project covering the distance of 805 km long Bipole.

How to Reach

The easiest and convenient way to reach Dadri would be by train or by road as Gautam Buddha Nagar district is well connected to the cities like Ghaziabad about 24 km and New Delhi about 45 km. If one chooses to travel by air, then the closest destination would be New Delhi further one can opt to travel by train, bus or taxi to reach Dadri.

Features & Places of Interest

NTPC Township is covered with boundary walls from all sides. The township has all most all facilities for the residents of NTPC, at times the residents go out to Delhi and Ghaziabad for shopping. It has two shopping malls namely Silver Jubilee Park and Fountain Park, fulfilling all the basic requirements of the township. In the campus there is a Helipad for landing of small helicopter, Parks for children, Maharana Pratap sports stadium. The campus has three schools namely Kendriya Vidyalaya, Delhi Public school, Dav Public school, students from neighboring towns and villages such as Hapur, Dadri, Pilkhuwa Dasna etc. come to study. All most all the teachers are accomodated in the campus quarters. It has a Temple, Church, Mosque and Gurudwara within the range of the township. There are two clubs namely VRC Club and NTPC Club, three health clubs with latest machines, libraries, Cafeteria, Swimming pools, Training center, Urja Bhavan and a VIP guest house. The township is divided into types and the quarters are allotted as per the employee’s designation and grade. The NTPC Township is self sufficient in itself. It is a beautiful place, surrounded with trees, plants flowers spreading the greenery and peace.
