History and location
Located in the western part of India, Gandhinagar is the capital city of Gujarat. It is situated on the banks of river Sabarmati. It is also known as the greenest capital in India and with the beautiful city Ahmedabad close by, it has emerged as a tourist spot too. People who come to visit Ahmedabad make it a must to visit Gandhinagar too. It is just 30 km. away from Ahmedabad. It is believed to have n built by Sultan Ahmed Shah who is also said to construct the city of Ahmedabad.
Places to see
The most popular place in Gandhinagar is the Akshardham temple. It is a very splendid work of art with beautiful carvings by pink stones. All around the temple are beautiful lush green gardens and fresh water fountains. They also organize laser shows in the evening to which also attracts many tourists. Around 18 km. south of Gandhinagar, is another place of attraction known as the Adlaj Ni Vav which was built by Rani Rudrabai in the 15 century. The Vav, so called in Gujarat is the step well which is intricately carved with beautiful floral designs.
An amusement park or the Children’s park in sector 28 is also a tourist attraction providing many rides, boating facilities and other kinds of amusement to the kids as well as the grown ups. A toy train is also a nice adventure here. The Deer park or the Indroda Park is a perfect place for those seeking peace and solace from the regular hustle bustle of the city. There is also a Dinosaurs Park here with various statues of dinosaurs worth seeing. A python cage, an aquarium and the snake park are other attractions in the Deer park. A beautiful garden known as the Sarita Garden situated on the banks of River Sabarmati is a nice picnic spot .the craftsmen village at Pethapur is another good place to know the cultural heritage of Gujarat. An excellent piece of work is the the domed building, the Capital Complex VitthalBhai Patel Bhavan. Some tourists also make a visit to the Gujarat Law University.
A botanical garden with is an amalgation of botanical species along with the zodiac signs is the Punit Van in sector 19 of Gandhinagar. Am amphitheatre is also a major attraction here. Some close by attractions is also the golden beaches of Daman and Diu not very far from here.
