Bhopal – Tour to City of Lakes

Introduction

Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the 11th century city Bhojpal, founded by Raja Bhoj, but the present city was established by an Afghan soldier, Dost Mohammed (1707-1740).It is a fascinating amalgam of scenic beauty, old historic city and modern urban planning. The two lakes of Bhopal still dominate the city, and are indeed its nucleus. If that is not enough, an era of Nawabi opulence with historic monuments in its full architectural grandeur awaits you in Bhopal.

How to reach here:

Bhopal is on one of the two main Delhi to Mumbai railway lines and also on the main line to the southern state capitals of Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Thiruvananthpuram. There are direct trains to Amritsar and Jammu Tawi and also to major towns in Madhya Pradesh. It has regular flights to Mumbai, Indore, Delhi, Gwalior, Guwahati, Goa, Indore and Lucknow. There are extensive bus services (private and state) to cities within the region and interstate.

Mosques and Palaces

Taj-ul-Masajid is the largest mosque in the country. The most impressive features of the mosque are its main hall with inter-arched roof, broad facade, spacious courtyard, and smooth marble flooring.

Jama Masajid is located at the centre of chowk bazar; a busy business centre of Bhopal.

Moti Masajid is architecturally akin to Jama Masajid in Delhi.

Shaukat Mahal is an architectural marvel and a cynosure of all eyes.

Sadar Manzil is the, Hall of public audience of the former rulers of Bhopal.

Museums

Bharat Bhawan is a centre for the performing and visual arts.

Manav Sangrahalaya (Museum of Man kind) is an open-air exhibition of tribal house types located on Shamla Hills.

Regional Science Centre located on the picturesque Shyamala Hills. This centre houses about 300 science exhibits in ‘Invention’ and ‘Fun Science’ galleries.

Birla Mandir is situated at the highest point of Bhopal, atop area Hills. From this place you can have an overview of the entire Bhopal city.

Lakes and Parks

Bhopal Lake was built by late parmar king Bhoj one thousand years ago, known as Upper Lake. There are facilities for exciting trips by sail, paddle, and motor-boats. Lower Lake is about two hundred years old.

Gufa Mandir and Khatlapura Mandir are famous temples which attract lot of devotees and visitors.

Van Vihar is the center of attraction for local as well as foreign tourists which is located on a hill near to upper lake in natural surroundings.
