Faizabad Tour

Location

Situated on the banks of river Ghaghra, Faizabad also known as the twin city of Ayodhya is 7 km. from Ayodhya in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Historians say that Faizabad was present in the days of Ramayana where it was known as Saket. Another name by which this city was known in the earlier days was 'bangla'. There are many places of tourist attractions in Faizabad.

Places to visit

Mausoleum of Shuja-ud Daula-

There are three important tombs here one belonging to the king, Shuja-ud-daula and the other two of his parents. It is considered as one of the important monuments of Faizabad. A large many tourists visit this monument every year. Another important monument of historical significance is the Moti Mahal. Also known as the Pearl Palace, it represents rich heritage and culture of the Nawabs. With a unique identity of its own, it has been recognized as a heritage site of India. Built by Shuja-ud-Daula in 1764, the Fort Calcutta in Faizabad is a very old fort worth seeing. This was built in order to commemorate his defeat in the Buxar battle. Another place to visit is the Botanical Museum at Faizabad. Rare specimens of botanical plants can be seen here.

Located at the Guptar Park near the Guptar Ghat is another site of tourist attraction, the Faizabad museum. In this museum one can see the historical and mythological displays of the culture of the city. The Guptar Park itself is a sight seeing spot and the nearby Guptar Ghat has many temples of ancient times. There is a temple known as the Chakra Hajri Vishnu Temple which is famous because it is said that the footprints of Lord Rama is present here. Another botanical garden called the Company Gardens is worth visiting. The Gulab Bari which means 'the garden of roses' has a great many varieties of roses with fountains on all sides. It also has the mausoleum of the second ruler, Nawab Shuja-ud-daula.

The military temple which is located in the cantonment area is also a lovely place to visit because of its calmness and serenity. There is a tomb which shows a great architectural excellence of those days. This is the tomb of the Bahu Begum which is about 42 km. in height and is made out of white marble. It is one of the major tourist spot because of its uniqueness and splendor. About 40km. from Faizabad is the Shringi Rishi Ashram which is amazing place worth- visiting. Some of the other places of tourist attractions are the Raja Mandir and the Ghanta Ghar or the Clock tower located in the heart of the city.
